Physical Education
The California Education Code Section 60800 requires each school district to administer a physical fitness test annually to all students in Grades 5, 7, and 9. The State Board of Education designated the FITNESSGRAM® as the required Physical Fitness Test (PFT) for California public schools. The PFT is administered between February 1 and May 31. The primary goal of the FITNESSGRAM® is to assist students in establishing lifetime habits of regular physical activity.
In 2018-19 the Physical Fitness state test was administered to OUSD fifth and seventh-grade students. There are three categories in six different fitness areas for determining the level of fitness and health for students.
These fitness categories are:
-
In the Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ)
-
Needs Improvement (not in HFZ)
-
Needs Improvement- High Risk (not in HFZ - High Risk)
The 2018-19 Physical Fitness Results include a summary report for Orinda grades 5 and 7 students in the six fitness areas. Overall, Orinda students exceed the statewide performance results for fitness and health. Individual student results were provided to parents in June 2019.
